The Clarke Residence

Eastern Shore, Maryland, 1995

The drive to the residence is straight and focuses on the front door, some 400 yards in the distance. The drumroll intensifies as one first passes between a pair of trees, then 30 yards later through a group of six, then through 12, and finally a grove of 21 that shade and soften the seven gabled ends, announcing the house and its entry. The house is traditional yet classic Eastern Shore design: no gutters, simple lines, and large openings that reflect the tobacco barns of the 18th Century.
